Dia De Los Muertos

Dia De Los Muertos

Day of the Dead/ All Souls Day

A Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased loved ones for a brief celebration of food/drink and remembrance celebrated from October 31- November 2nd. It is said by some that heavens gates open for children on the 31st and Nov 2nd is for the adults. People from all over bring offerings, gifts, favorite foods are placed at the gravesite or ofrendas ( Alter) . “Ofendas” are decorated with candles and marigolds also called cempasuchil. It is believed that the bright yellow and orange flowers help to attract the souls to their alters. The bright colors are to celebrate life instead of being sad or bitter towards death.

Old Town San Diego didn’t disappoint they had live music, ton of vendors, movie on a big screen and a ton of activities. It was beautiful with all the colors and decorations. So happy to experience Dia De Los Muertos with friends and learn about the celebration 🌼☀️
